Freedom from Fixed Mind
with David Hope
Lindsberg, Falun
16 – 23 juli
“With prajna you cut methodically, one situation after another. When you cut through your primitive beliefs about reality and your conflicting emotions there is compassion.”
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Fixed mind refers to the endless procession of viewpoints, opinions, prejudices and conceptual structures that we build up over time and which solidify our responses to people and situations in our lives. These somewhat inflexible and sometimes rigid mental habits trigger our negative emotions, limiting our ability to open to others and feel our own tenderness.
Meditation is the practice that can bring these repetitive thought patterns to our awareness, allowing us to gently soften and to gradually let them go. This helps to dissolve our sense of separation from our fellow human beings, and in turn allows our natural openness and innate intelligence or prajna to express itself, progressively revealing the true nature of our being which is wise and compassionate.
This natural sequence of development begins with the simplicity of shamatha, or resting meditation, through the more penetrating approach of vipashyana insight practice, to the unfolding of our inborn capacity for compassion: the uncontrived expression of our warm human heart.
A Weekthun is a week-long meditation retreat which includes meditation instruction, talks, meditation practice, discussion and time to relax, go for walks, enjoy the sauna, the lake and nature around Lindsberg. During the weekthun we will also offer individual meetings with an experienced meditation instructor. The program is open to everyone - both beginners as well as experienced meditators who would like to deepen their practice.
Lindsberg is beautifully located in Dalarna, about a three-hour drive north of Stockholm. It is situated near a lovely lake, a ten-minute walk from the venue, by which is an old-style wood-fired sauna. The house is surrounded by forests - perfect for long nature walks.
For more information about the venue and more photos of the house, rooms, garden and surroundings go to: http://www.lindsberg.org

In 2005 he was appointed as Acharya (a senior teacher) for the Shambhala community, but has now retired from that position although continuing to teach, mostly online at this time. He now lives on the South Coast of England.
