Maitri and the four immeasurables
Online evening course with David Hope
Sundays, 18:30 – 20:30 CET
March 13, 27, April 10, 24, May 8, 22
During the six evenings we are going to explore the teachings of Maitri and the Four Immeasurables. Maitri, described as unconditional friendship with one's self, is the basis of the Four Immeasurables. These four bodhicitta, or heart practices — the cultivation of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity—are a rich range of techniques that open the heart, counter the distortions in our relationships to ourselves, and deepen our relationships to others. Tonglen, known as the the practice of sending and taking from the heart, is a further development of this approach.
The teachings are part of the bigger buddhist Mahayana path. Mahayana students learn to see the emptiness of all phenomena and aspire to free all living beings from suffering. The student does this by cultivating great compassion.
The talks are in English. Discussion groups are in English and Swedish.
Experience with meditation pratice is required.
The course is online through Zoom.
