Shambhala Stockholm Summer Retreat 2025
Breaking the power of habit:
finding inner freedom
Solbo retreat center, Fellingsbro
with Adrienne Chang and
Marie Kronquist
4-10 August
Shenpa is the mental and emotional "hook" that catches us when we react to situations with intense attachment, aversion, or reactivity. Shenpa occurs when we feel triggered—whether by anger, fear, jealousy, or other strong emotions— and causes us to become caught in habitual patterns of thought and behavior. When we’re hooked by shenpa, we are pulled into a cycle of reactivity, often leading to unskillful actions or words that reinforce our emotional entanglements. This moment of being "hooked" is crucial because, while it is a natural part of the human experience, it also presents an opportunity for awareness and transformation.
Drawing from Pema Chödrön’s book Taking the Leap and foundational Buddhist teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, this retreat encourages participants to explore how to:
- Liberate ourselves from limiting beliefs and reactive tendencies that create suffering.
- Transform difficult emotions by cultivating gentle, nonjudgmental awareness.
- Embrace uncertainty as a gateway towards personal growth and wisdom.
Through the practice of sitting meditation, group discussions, and reflective exercises, we will learn to gain insight into our habitual patterns, work with our fears, cultivate a deeper sense of compassion, and discover how to step into the unknown with openness, clarity and confidence.
Adrienne Chang is a student in the tradition of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Adrienne is currently a member of the Milinda program, a ten-year shedra-styled Buddhist teacher training program under the guidance of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. Originally from the United States, Adrienne earned an MA in International Public Policy at Columbia University, and has had a career in management consulting. She has taught and published in the fields of Buddhist philosophy and history and meditation. She currently resides in Luxembourg and France.
Co-teacher of this program is Marie Kronquist from Denmark. She is educated in psychology and has taught psychology, Buddhism, leadership, mindfulness and meditation for the past 15 years. She has been inspired by Buddhist wisdom since her youth. Marie was introduced to Shambhala 15 years ago and in the first many years it was especially Pema Chodron who was an important inspiration and teacher. Since there is no active Shambhala Center in Denmark, she has studied and been affiliated with Shambhala Center London. Marie has also been an active student at Shambhala Online and their program series. She passed the MI and Teacher Training in 2024 at Dechen Choling. Marie feels inspired to support and contribute to the Shambhala Europe and Dechen Choling. Marie has a Buddhist Sangha in Copenhagen and she lives with her family on the countryside.
